The Fax Partnership acquires two motels for affordable housing

The Fax Partnership (The Fax) has acquired two motels (Westerner and Sand & Sage) located in East Colfax to provide temporary shelters for unhoused families and individuals. The acquisition was completed with the help of multiple lenders including Enterprise Community Partners, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado. The City of Denver and State of Colorado will be providing grant funding. The Fax will be partnering with Volunteers of America of Colorado in 2023 to operate the buildings as shelter. Redevelopment will begin in 2028 with new, affordable homes with neighborhood-serving ground floor use.

Residents of the East Colfax neighborhood as well as frequent visitors to the area know that it’s populated by immigrants and refugees who’ve come from all around the world, bringing their cultures with them. As a result, the corridor running from Monaco Parkway and Yosemite Street is packed with restaurants serving everything from Ethiopian to Burmese cuisine, along with markets that carry unique foods, spices and other items.
